DOUBLE CATHARSIS

Suffering fired into kinetic energy
La souffrance métabolisée en énergie

Suffering fired into kinetic energy
La souffrance métabolisée en énergie

Isabelle Grosse has photographed over 300 water splashes at high speed in her studio, each one shot through with embedded plastic that distorts the water's natural form, wounding it. She reads water as emotional: mutable, volatile, capable of holding both pain and release. The explosive moment itself mattersvnegative energy doesn't just dissipate but converts into raw kinetic force. Krump dancers know this conversion intimately. They speak of emerging from sessions simultaneously emptied and charged, having burned through difficult emotions while asserting their physical presence.

Isabelle sees a direct line between the instantaneous burst of a water splash and Krump's explosive movements both are expressions of pain converted to power, survival made visible. In her "Double Catharsis" series, she pairs each dancer with a water splash that echoes their particular energy. The splashes become portraits of a kind, capturing not facial features but the shape of each dancer's intensity, the specific pattern of their release.

With the Krump dancers : Ken Vaega, Zay Irving, Kid Twiggz, Minami Suzuki, Thaïme Aka, Samo aka, Queen Naab, Space.4000, Radmo Diamond, Malou.X,  Nahuel Fifty.

The series will expand to include other Krump dancers.
